This is our “find the best snow in April” trip; and Snowbird, Utah claims to have Utah’s longest ski and ride season with this past year closing in mid-May!  Stats include: 2500 acres of skiable terrain, 1 tram, 10 chairlifts, 500+ inch snow average, 27 percent green, 38 percent blue and 35 percent black. Up the road, and accessible from Snowbird, is Alta, also an Ikon resort. And buses are available to take you down the Little Cottonwood Canyon to a transfer to the Big Cottonwood Canyon for skiing Solitude and Brighton, also Ikon resorts. We will be staying at the upscale Cliff Lodge in queen/queen rooms. The Cliff Lodge is one of North America’s most iconic ski lodges. Enjoy ski-in/ski-out convenience and excellent service with a luxurious resort experience. Other amenities include: on-site ski rentals, ski lockers, an exercise room, room service, and concierge. After a day on the mountain, relax at the outdoor pool or the Cliff Spa.  The Cliff Spa features over 30 treatment and salon services, a yoga studio, fitness center and rooftop pool and hot tub.  Included in our lodging are lift tickets to Snowbird; but for those who have the Ikon, the resort will provide $418 in gift cards. Among Snowbird’s excellent selection of dining opportunities is the Aerie Restaurant/Lounge and The Atrium.

We’re going back to France!  Chamonix lies on the borders of Italy, France and Switzerland in a valley at the foot of the spectacular Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe.   With its five resorts (Grand Montets, Les Houches, Le Tour/Balme, La Flegere and Le Brevent), Chamonix Mont-Blanc offers the perfect ski holiday.  Your lift pass includes a bigger area than Vail and Aspen combined!  The town of Chamonix is filled with shops, cafes, pubs and an exceptional night life.  Be sure to bring your appetite.  The food is incredible!   This trip will include round trip air and group transfers to the La Folie Hotel, a ski-in/ski-out resort in Chamonix, breakfast and an evening meal (3 courses, glass of wine, water, coffee or tea) and entertainment every night but Monday.   Think along the lines of La Cage Aux Folles.

Then after a week of skiing, we are offering a post trip for 20 participants to Paris!  Our group will depart Chamonix by luxury coach and arrive in Paris to stay at the Rive Gauche Hotel with Breakfast included every day.  Our four-star hotel is within easy walking distance to Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Pantheon, and the Luxembourg Gardens.

Did you know Whitefish is in the Top 10 of Ski Magazine’s annual Best Ski Resorts in the West?  Stats:  3,000 skiable acres, 111 marked trails, vast amounts of bowl and tree skiing, 320-inch snow average, longest run:  3.3 miles, 12 percent green, 37 percent blue, 44 percent black, and 7 percent double blacks.  Plus, the nearby town of Whitefish is available for shopping, dinner and nightlife.    Peggy McDaniel and Gayle Anderson are our trip leaders and already planning for a fun week.

Vail Skiing and Snowboarding
A huge 5289 acres of terrain is available at Vail, with something for everyone. Even absolute beginners are well catered for at Gopher Hill and at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola. The area really comes into its own, however, for intermediates upwards, especially if you follow the corduroy by picking up the day’s grooming map each morning. Our favorite runs lie in Game Creek Bowl, around the Northwoods Express and over the back of the mountain down to the Orient Express.

Vail’s ski area comes alive on a powder day, especially when a Rocky Mountain snowstorm loads the Back Bowls with fresh snow – just be sure to get there as early as possible to score fresh tracks. Blue Sky Basin is one vast playground filled with tree runs and gladed terrain, some of which is seriously steep; and it is here where you’ll find the best powder stashes long after fresh snowfall.
